Art for Peace:
Setting an Intention to Respond Instead of React

Art for Peace

“Creativity is the path to your imagination… and, if you can’t imagine it you can’t make it happen.” – Barbara Fish

World events call for our intentional practice. The Art for Peace group is a FREE, virtual open art studio created by internationally recognized art therapist, Barbara Fish, PhD. It is held every Friday evening from 6 – 9 PM CST, and attendees are welcome to come and go at any time.

Art for Peace was founded as a response to the societal trauma of September 11, 2001.  Students gathered in Dr. Fish’s Chicago home, lit candles, shared food, and made art together as a means of staying grounded in the wake of this tragedy and the ensuing events. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the group has met online every Friday evening.

Art for PeaceAll creative endeavors are welcome – from drawing to painting, knitting to sewing and anything in-between, Art for Peace attendees are invited to indulge in any creative discipline that moves them in the moment.  No artistic experience or talent is necessary.

During Art for Peace, we set an intention to engage in the creative process as a community so that we might return to our lives responsively instead of reacting out of fear.

Art for Peace is for anyone interested in gathering with like-minded individuals to experience the benefits of art-making in community as a contemplative practice.

At Art for Peace, you will:

Art for Peace

  • Find peace and grounding in the creative process
  • Unite in creativity from the intimacy of your own home to do anything creative
  • Gather strength and inspiration by creating “side-by-side” with others from all over the world
  • Engage in meaningful discourse
