To quote art therapist Pat Allen, “Art is a Way of Knowing,” and for me, there is no greater truth.
I have always known that I could find every answer to every problem in my studio, through some creative practice. My journey in becoming an art therapist has highlighted this even more. This is why I am so grateful to have premiered the first event in the speaker series that I am co-hosting with Dr. Barbara J. Fish, HLM, ATR-BC, ATCS, artist, art therapist, author and educator. “The Artist in the Art Therapist and The Artist in You: Flying with Our Imaginations” was enjoyed by a wonderful, global audience who had an opportunity to benefit from Barbara’s wisdom, way of being, and of course, her powerful art.
Among her many accolades, Barbara is the recent recipient of the American Art Therapy Association’s Honorary Lifetime Membership Award, the association’s highest honor. She is also my greatest life mentor!
Our ongoing series features art therapists from all over the world who will share why – and how – their art-making informs their lives. Most importantly, they will also share how you can do it too. Next month’s event takes place on March 9 2021 at 2 pm, featuring medical art therapist, Jill Mc Nutt, Ph.D., ATR-BC, LPC, ATRL, ATCS. “Inner Seeing, Outer Knowing: Supporting Others through Art-Making” will share the powerful impact of art-making in healthcare – and, on your own well-being. Hope to see you there!
